LICS Commits to a Greener Future

We are excited to announce (after three months of installation and three months of successful test phase) that our newly completed Photovoltaic project will embrace the most sustainable school operation and reduce its environmental footprint. This commitment is part of our ongoing effort to provide the most advanced teaching and learning environment, to contribute positively to the planet, to ensure a healthier future for generations to come and to support the nation’s efforts to improve the challenging energy situation.

What are the key highlights of our initiative?

1. Besides its leading reputation as an international school, LICS shall also become a leading educational institution in Zambia in terms of energy usage and production.

2. With the current stage we should achieve a minimum of 85-90% energy autonomy (off-grid power supply). In the next phase, we try to achieve an even higher autonomy and the possibility of feeding excess energy into the grid.

3. Staff and learners shall be exposed to a different future-oriented environment

“Going Green” becomes an integral part of our Teaching and Learning in the whole school “Innovate through a holistic and leading learning environment”

Learners and staff are exposed to the most advanced and environmentally friendly energy production and develop a special identity to and ownership of the most environmentally friendly working and lifestyle

The system provides the best possible “live example” at the school.

Our learners become ambassadors for a greener future (at their homes and in their future lives)

4. Community Engagement

As a school, we have the responsibility to use our unique opportunity as an educational institution to achieve the best possible environmental impact by educating and exposing our learners – the future generation – to the most advanced environmental approaches and concepts.

As a school serving a larger community, we want to promote environmental awareness and support green projects in our community.

This initial long-term investment of around 300,000 USD will enhance new developments and opportunities for the school, the students and the wider community.

Quote from the Head of School:

“At LICS, we believe that sustainability is not just a responsibility but an opportunity to innovate and lead by example. Our green initiative reflects our dedication to making a positive impact on the environment, to developing students with deep environmental awareness and inspiring others to join us in this crucial endeavor.”
