Lusaka International Community School (LICS) is proud to announce a groundbreaking achievement: we have become the first school in Zambia and across Africa to receive the Carnegie Centre of Excellence School Mental Health Award at Bronze level.
This recognition highlights our commitment to embedding mental health and wellbeing into every aspect of school life. With over 700 learners from 48 nationalities, LICS has embraced a proactive, holistic approach that supports not only pupils, but also staff and parents.
Our journey toward this milestone reflects the dedication of our leadership team, teachers, and community. A special acknowledgment goes to Primary Principal Ms Una Barras-Hargan and Vice Principal Mr Robert Milton, whose vision and guidance have been instrumental in driving this transformative work.
At LICS, well-being is not an add-on it is at the heart of our educational philosophy. This award affirms our belief that a thriving school community is built on strong mental health foundations. We look forward to continuing this journey, strengthening our initiatives, and inspiring other schools across Africa to prioritize wellbeing
